PERPETUALLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
For now: mostly unsorted links of things I find fascinating, helpful, cool, etc. Browse away.
apoB
apoB (apolipoprotein B) is a lipid particle resembling a rope or strand that wraps around a carrier lipid in the bloodstream. The presence of high levels has been correlated with ASCVD (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease — heart disease). It’s held as a bad actor because it is believed to contribute to hard and soft arterial plaques in a major way. A serious interest of mine since the male ancestors of mine seem to have genes that welcome this guy into the arteries. I’ve spent some time on this (never quite enough) and share what I’ve found here.
Apolipoprotein B Particles and Cardiovascular Disease: A Narrative Review. — NIH study. Title kinda gives it away.
antibiotics
I’m not ready for any deep dive into this arena. But I’m interested in giving it a serious look when I have the time. This is of 11/9/2024. Adding links when I can.
Association of Infant Antibiotic Exposure With Childhood Health Outcomes — Mayo Clinic study. This got my attention: “Early antibiotic exposure was associated with an increased risk of childhood-onset asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, celiac disease, overweight, obesity, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (hazard ratios ranging from 1.20 to 2.89; P<.05 for all).”
bio testing
All things testing — lab and other.
ZRT Laboratory Saliva Testing — Several types of tests using saliva, including testosterone.
Are continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) accurate? — Mike Riddell and Lauren Turner (of mysportscience), authors. Bit of a deeper dive into these devices.
blood flow restriction
Haven’t tried this one yet, but the talk is fascinating. Probably low hanging fruit. Can’t do it all.
breathing
Haven’t tried this one yet, but the talk is fascinating. Probably low hanging fruit. Can’t do it all.
Buteyko Clinic International — “Transform Your Health with the Buteyko Breathing Method.”
Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art — This one is worth the time. My sister bought me the hardback. Full of knowledge on the subject. I’ll never live to apply all of it. Not even close.
cannabis
Always a lot of fun to entertain. Still cannot believe how controversial. I don’t partake except on super rare occasions, but I think it’s time has come. Overdue, actually.
Adverse Health Effects of Marijuana Use — Another NIH one. Negative feedback here.
health devices
Trackers, watches, meters, monitors. All things for self-quantifying your health markers.
Oxline — Medical grade blood pressure meters, glucometers, pulse oximeters, etc.
n=1 fun
Nutrition and Energy — A Looker Studio chart that shows my own energy consumed vs burned over time. Fun.
regenerative farming
Regenerative farming is basically the down-to-earth oldschool farming we all used to do before the days of industrial ag. It is essentially letting all the plants and animals thrive together in an ecosystem as nature intended. The result is the richest lives for the plants and animals, and the highest quality foods: hands down.
Weesner Meadow Farm — Regenerative farm near Holly Springs, Mississippi.
White Oak Pastures — Regenerative farm in Bluffton, Georgia. Excellent beef, from my experience. Will Harris has appeared on JRE twice (maybe more). Good stuff here. Check it out.
Rhodes Farm — Regenerative farm in Saulsbury, TN. Excellent Angus beef, Berkshire pork, and many other offerings. Grass-fed, finished with some grain. Delicious. Had some of the ground beef from the local farmers market. Among the very best I’ve ever eaten.
Pacha — Regenerative farm dedicated to zero added ingredients. Buckwheat. Very off the beaten path. Organic, regenerative grains. Excellent.
Ancient Grains — Regenerative organic family farm and mill in Idaho restoring ancient grains. Sold in paper bags. Startling.
Gluten-Free Italian Flour — In search of heirloom grains without chemicals that don’t blow up the glycemic chain. Amazon’s page for several offerings worth looking into.
